The Oaks Club is owned by its Members and governed by a Board of Equity Members, ensuring that all have a say in the Club’s future — unlike corporately owned and managed clubs. Distinguished Heritage
At the turn of the 20th century, Mrs. Bertha Honoré Palmer — a renowned Chicago socialite, businesswoman, and philanthropist — discovered a pristine area on the shores of Little Sarasota Bay in Osprey.
Enthralled by the beauty and tranquility of this area, she purchased the thousand-acre parcel and gave it a name: The Oaks.
Mrs. Palmer transformed The Oaks into her winter home, creating lavish gardens, walkways, and ponds. Sarasota soon became a popular winter retreat for business leaders, politicians, artists, writers, and trendsetters, many of whom she entertained at The Oaks.
Today, Bertha Palmer’s legacy of culture, love of nature, and the finer things in life continues — at The Oaks Club.
